I know from experience that there’s nothing more disheartening then returning home from a holiday. You might still have that post-holiday glow, and you’re positively bursting with happy memories and incredible anecdotes of your time away, but once reality sets in it’s enough to burst your post-holiday bubble.
I’m a firm believer that keeping yourself busy means that you’re less likely to suffer from post-holiday blues. So, with this in mind I’ve come up with my top 5 things to do when you return from holiday.
Go through your holiday memories.
I’m sure you’ll have taken so many photographs whilst on holiday, and it’s a shame to leave them hidden away in your smartphone for years. So, before they’re forgotten about, get all your favourites printed off and put them on show! From larger canvas prints to traditional ones for a frame, why not share all your selfies, landscapes shots and glorious sunsets, and put them on display in your home. Memories always bring a smile to your face.

Unpack.
I don’t think there’s a single person who unpacks the moment they return from holiday. The idea of tackling a suitcase that’s bursting with toiletries, dirty clothes and lots of things that require organization just isn’t fun. It also officially means the end of your vacay.
However, leaving your suitcase in the hallways for weeks on end is only going to prolong your post-holiday mood, so it’s best to get to it as soon as possible. A little organization will certainly make you feel better. It will also be a plus to not be tripping over your case every day for a month. ?

Go through your finances.
This one is more of a boring life admin task, but let’s face, it needs to be done. After you’re settled back at home take some time to go through your accounts and check how much you’ve spent and if you have any of your budget leftover, you could potentially put it back into your savings.
Double check things like credit card charges and anything that looks a little suspicious. If you’re concerned about any transactions you don’t recognize, speak to your bank as soon as possible. It sounds boring, but ensuring everything is as it should be means that you’re not financing someone else’s fun in the Bahamas.
Check your emails & calendar.
You’ve been checked out of reality for a couple of weeks, which means you might need a few days to check back in to real life. Go through your diary and remind yourself of any important dates you’ve got coming up. Doctors appointments, meetings at work, birthday parties – it’ll help you get back into your normal routine again and hopefully reduce your stress levels.

Book yourself another break!
We all need something to look forward to. Whether it’s a night away with friends, a child-free getaway with your partner or just a solo weekend retreat. It’s good for us to have something to look forward to and be excited about something.
Even if you don’t have the finances right now, look into planning and thinking about where you could go next. Even if you can’t book anywhere at the moment, the planning element alone will help you ease back into real life and give you that next holiday to keep you going!
