So far, 2020 has not exactly been a year for jet setting around the world.

Our normal lives of after-work happy hours, far-flung weekend trips, and plans to travel with friends have turned into afternoon Zoom calls and in apartment date nights.

Still, I recognize the importance of sacrificing these everyday pleasures for the health and safety 0f not only ourselves but for others who are more vulnerable.

For now, I’m happy to pause, reflect, and plan my dream trips for the time when it’s declared to be safe, and I can get out there in the world once more. I know the beauty of the natural world will be waiting for me! ?

And so, during my planning and research, I’ve put together this list of six incredible sites of natural wonder that I can’t wait to see for myself one day. I thought I’d share, in case it brings you some inspiration too!

The Blue Lagoon, Iceland

Iceland as a whole has been on my bucket list for years now. It’s my dream to take a long road trip throughout the many natural wonders that this stunning country has to offer.

I’d dedicate a whole day visit to the Blue Lagoon Spa and Resort where visitors can journey into the volcanic earth and experience unforgettable lagoon swimming and spa treatments. I’d get a massage, cover myself in mud, and even take part in the unique silica, algae, and mineral ritual.

Pembrokeshire Coast National Trail, Wales

This beautiful and dramatic coastline path, wending its way across 300km of southwest Wales, is a haven for walkers, nature spotters, and beach-dwellers alike. Signposted paths connect Amroth and St. Dogmaels, with guided walks and other activities available in the area.

Oh yeah, and I’ve heard to keep an eye out for seals in the waters!

Verdon Gorge, France

Situated in the Verdon River Canyon, this area is famed for its blue-green waters, which are unique to this region of southeastern France. I’ve been told that Verdon Gorge is a must for lovers of swimming, kayaking, and other water activities. So, it sounds right up my alley!

Uluru, Australia

Also known as Ayers Rock, this 350m-high sandstone site is spiritual and sacred to its aboriginal custodians, the Anangu. It’s known for an abundance of springs, caves, waterholes, and ancient paintings.

The Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park is within driving reach of Alice Springs, and Ayers Rock airport receives flights from around the world, making it easily accessible.

I’ve heard the weather here is wild though and can range from around 30°C + during the day, but then plunge below 0°C at night. And so I’d definitely want to ensure I pack properly for this area in the Australian outback.

The Grand Canyon, Arizona

At an astounding 277 miles long and up to 18 miles across, the Grand Canyon is truly one of nature’s most spectacular wonders.

I still cannot believe I haven’t visited here. I’ve been to other canyons in the area, such as Antelope Canyon, but the Grand Canyon still remains at the top of my bucket list.

Those looking to experience this vast chasm can be guided by the Grand Canyon National Park and their many trails, from which various areas can be explored.

Ha Long Bay, Vietnam

Around 1,600 inlets and islands make up Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay! Honored as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the bay is home to massive greenery-covered limestone pillars, and is an Instagrammers dream. I discover this site on Pinterest years back, and have been dying to visit ever since!

This worldwide pandemic has affected all of our lives in some way or another. For us travelers, our worlds have definitely become much smaller.

While we cannot yet know how it will shape our world to come, I have hope that we will soon be able to get out there and have adventures. So many wonderful sites, like the ones I talked about today, will be waiting for us.

Truly, there has never been a better time to daydream, fill out our bucket lists and plan for when the time is right, and our horizons and our eyes expand anew.
