Few types of vacations can match the excitement of going on a cruise, enjoying the sun 24/7 while you head to some of the world’s most exotic locations. And to make things even better, nowadays you’ve got a vast variety of destinations to choose from, from stunning white sand-clad beaches to historical monuments that tell incredible stories.
If you’re contemplating going on a cruise, but aren’t really sure where to head to, here’s an idea. Read on to check out some of the world’s best cruising destinations that just beg for you to book a charter cruise and head out.
Bahamas
US folks are going to love this, as the Bahamas are a mere quick sail away from Florida. And it’s an incredible place to visit, as long as you remember not to head out there during the peak hurricane season which lasts from the 1st of June until the 30th of November.
The beauty of cruising the Bahamas is the absolute ease of it. You get to relax pretty much anywhere you go, and you’ll be able to enjoy long, sandy beaches that beg you to grab a cocktail, your favorite book and just kick back and enjoy. While you’re cruising, you’re surrounded by stunning crystal clear waters, and you’ll get to see (and maybe join) the locals while they surf, dive or snorkel. The coral life is absolutely stunning, and it’s a huge part of why the Bahamas are a great destination for a cruise.
Indonesia
The first question that probably pops up in your head is “what is there to see in Indonesia?”, but believe me, there’s plenty. The country is home to over 18 thousand islands (yes, you read that right! 😱), as well as some of the world’s most incredible cultural variety. There are over 1,300 ethnic groups, and each comes with its own traditions and cultural experience.
If heading to Indonesia, the first place you’ll want to visit is probably Bali. The island is a tourist’s paradise and is popular because it gives you a taste of everything that Indonesia has to offer in one place. Of course, if you’d rather go for a calmer alternative that doesn’t have thousands of tourists at any point in time, Lombok should be your choice. It’s a prime surfing destination with some incredible beaches and beautiful coral life.
Then there’s the Spice Islands, which were the only source of nutmeg at one point, and are now an excellent place to experience all the history that surrounds them. The architecture is surprisingly well preserved considering how old it is. And lest we forget – Raja Ampat. While there are over 600 islands as part of Raja Ampat, the “Four Kings” are going to be sufficient for you to visit, along with the sail among some of the world’s most beautiful waters.
Mexico
Not your typical cruising destination, we’ll give you that, but Mexico has a lot to offer. From historical monuments and incredible food to stunning coral life and prime surfing spots for you to enjoy while on a cruise.
A location we would definitely recommend you visit is the Mayan ruins in Tulum. They’re a historical spot that allows you to witness a past that goes back thousands of years. While we’re talking history, the Aztec roots at Tenochtitlan and Templo Mayor are an excellent addition to that list.
One of the beauties of Mexico is that you’ll be cruising through extremely clear waters and enjoying beautiful coral life from above. If you’re a fan of diving or snorkeling, Mexico is perfect for you. And once you’re done with water sports, you can experience some of the most delicious (and often affordable) cuisines in the world. There is an excellent choice when it comes to regional food, and everything is jam-packed with flavors that literally take your taste buds to heaven.
Greece
The last destination we’ll be discussing is Greece. While for some, it might be a bit of a stretch to get there, believe us – cruising Greece is definitely worth it. And you don’t even have to go to Greece, to begin with, you’ve got plenty of lines that depart from cities like Venice, Rome, Istanbul, and Barcelona. Just pick the one that fits your fancy.
We’ve mentioned both historical sites, and beautiful locations throughout this post and Greece is a wonderful combination of both. Just head to Athens and check out the Acropolis of Athens, a place that over seven million tourists visit each year to take a closer look at. It’s not just the Acropolis – there are other incredible architectural and archaeological finds for you to enjoy in the area, too.
And when you head back to the waters, you’ll have the immense pleasure of visiting the island of Rhodes, as well as Santorini and Mykonos. The island of Rhodes is just off the coast of Turkey, and you’ll be able to walk through a fortified city where a Wonder of the World once stood, the Colossus of Rhodes.
Santorini and Mykonos are fairly popular tourist destinations, and both are islands that are full of those beautiful whitewashed houses you see in all the iconic Greek Island pictures. They’re some of the world’s most photographed places, and both come with their own charm. There’s even speculation that Santorini is the location of the lost city of Atlantis! Mykonos, on the other hand, is a party paradise during the tourist season, and there are some incredible views for you to enjoy.
Of course, Corfu shouldn’t be forgotten either – this island gets you small hillside villages and those exotic blue waters you’ve been dreaming of. And if you want a break, just grab yourself a cocktail and head to one of those secluded sandy beaches to enjoy it.
