During my FIVE weeks exploring the little principality of Liechtenstein, I had the opportunity to visit some pretty awesome Liechtenstein hotels. Most of the hotels I got to visit weren’t your run of-the-mill chain establishments, but rather smaller, often family-owned, unique properties, full of character, with a story to tell!
And that’s what I love about traveling! Getting to know the locals, the local culture and learning about the place where I’m spending my time. Usually I have to venture out of my hotel or other accommodation to do so, but in Liechtenstein half of the experience comes from where you’re staying!
Here are some of my favorite hotels in Liechtenstein, offering a place to stay for every type of traveler and every budget!
3 Splurge-Worthy Liechtenstein Hotels
1. Park Hotel Sonnenhof
The Park Hotel Sonnenhof is a romantic Relais & Chateaux residence located in the heart of Liechtenstein, overlooking the Rhine valley, Swiss Alps and Vaduz Castle. The hotel is made up of 29 elegant rooms, from singles to suites, each meticulously designed with a unique theme and style. In fact, they pride themselves on their incredible attention to each and every detail of your stay.

2. The Residence Hotel
Smack in the middle of Liechtenstein’s “downtown” or capital city, Vaduz, you’ll find the modern 4-star Residence Hotel. It’s located on a pedestrian-only street and conveniently just steps away from most of the country’s main tourist attractions including Vaduz Castle, the Kunstmuseum, Liechtenstein’s National Museum, the Vaduz Cathedral, various souvenir shops and a number of top-rated restaurants.
The best part- although the Residence Hotel is near all the action, while in your room, you’d never know it! It’s a remarkably quiet and peaceful place to stay.

3. Gorfion – Das Familienhotel
The Gorfion – Das Familienhotel was designed specifically with families in mind. They take care of the small, yet complicated details to ensure that all family members have an enjoyable stay- and so parents have the chance to relax!
The kid-friendly hotel grounds include a playground and indoor pool, as well as services such as carriage rentals and in-house chile care for children up to age 12. They also happen to be very close to Malbun’s ski school.

4 Moderately Priced to Budget Liechtenstein Hotels
**Note: If I’m being completely honest, not many things in Liechtenstein can be considered “budget-friendly” by many travelers’ standards. BUT here are some options I’ve found leaning towards the budget side!
4. Hotel Oberland
Hotel Oberland is a self check-in hotel located in Triesenberg, at 940 m above sea level. All of their modern and spacious rooms are equipped with a private balcony to enjoy the stunning panoramic views of the Alps and valley below. The hotel is within quick walking distance of several stores, restaurants and cafés and a short scenic drive away from Liechtenstein’s Malbun, Triesenberg and Steg. It’s an ideal spot for a vacation filled with outdoor recreation activities!
*Note: this hotel does not have an elevator.

5. Vögeli Alpenhotel Malbun
Malbun’s Alpenhotel is a local family-run establishment and the oldest hotel in the Malbun area! Its rich history and charming, traditional decor give this hotel a very cozy, welcoming and homey-feel. Their in-house restaurant features an extensive menu of regional dishes and a large balcony to take in the mountainous scenery.
In summer, many of Liechtenstein’s most popular hiking and biking trails start just outside the hotel doors, and in winter, the Alpenhotel is a ski in – ski out property, with Malbun’s cable car just 100m down the road.

6. Jugendherberge Schaan-Vaduz
Jugendherberge is currently Liechtenstein’s only youth hostel, made up of a variety of different styled room, from shared dormitory set-ups to private twin or bunk bed rooms. This hostel is a true budget option in the sea of expensive Liechtenstein hotels and appeals to a younger traveling crowd, with open common areas, game rooms and close proximity to bus stops.

7. Berggasthaus Sucka
Tucked away in the remote Sücka neighborhood, you’ll find this little mountain hut. A stay at this scenic bed and breakfast will give you the true small-town Liechtenstein experience. Whether you prefer to relax and simply take in the fresh alpine air, witness the everyday tasks of the area’s herdsmen or take part in the many adventure sports available like snow-shoeing, hiking, sledding and mountain-biking, Sücka’s friendly staff will welcome you with open arms.

BONUS
Marc and Anna-Lena’s Tepee
Ok, so this one may not be a traditional hotel, but it’s still super cool, AND really unique, so it’s making the list. This Tepee is also quite a budget accommodation option, especially by Liechtenstein standards, comfortably fitting five for under $100 a night!
The tepee is located on Marc and Anna-Lena’s llama and alpaca farm and equipped with a compost bathroom, an enclosed wooden shower, 24-7 self-service market and features one hell of a beautiful backdrop of the Rhine Valley and the Swiss Alps! It’s a true Glamping haven. You can even book a guided Llama Trek along Liechtenstein’s trails, to get to know your funny animal neighbors a bit better.

I’m loving all your Liechtenstein posts 🙂 The architectural style of the hotels is very cute and reminds me of the architecture in Slovenia. I would particularly love to stay in that teepee (and do the llama tour obvi)
When I think of Liechtenstein, I think of classic European style in the Alps. Similar to what Park Hotel Sonnenhof has to offer. The biggest surprise of all these accommodations is Marc and Anna-Lena’s Tepee om their alpaca and llama farm. The view still looks like the Alps but it would have a bit of a South American feel.
Several of these hotels appeal to me. It looks like my top choice would be the Alpen Hotel in Malbun. Those green hills and being close to outdoor activities sound great. Any of these except the tepee — reminds me too much of grade school summer camp!
I was showing my husband your instagram videos of Liechtenstein and he’s in now. You had me with Relais and Chateaux. 😉 I discovered one of their hotels during our Christmas trip in Italy… and I loved it so much that we went back in April. I’d love to see what this one is like. 🙂
